We don't usually allow children under the age of 7 to train. This is because young children tend to lack the attention and discipline needed to learn Karate. There is no upper limit in age.
Not for your first few lessons. You should arrive wearing loose fitting clothes ( workout gear is ideal ), which allow you to move easily. It's difficult to kick with tight jeans!Once you are sure you would like to learn Karate, then you should purchase a Gi ( uniform ). We can help you with measuring up and where to buy them from.
You do not need private medical insurance. Once you are sure you would like to start learning Karate, you will need a Karate license. This gives you membership to the SKKIF association and allows you to take your grading.
If you follow the instructions carefully you should not get hurt. That said, Karate is a contact sport and you should expect small knocks and bruises. We do not practice full contact kumite, but you should expect to participate in some light sparring.

That said, people with all sorts of pre-existing health conditions and disabilities train in Karate all over the world. Take things slowly and listen to your body. Yes we enter our club into competitions, we have a lot of members that are very good and perform well at competitions. That said we do not force any individual to participate if they do not feel comfortable in doing so.
When you join the association you will start at 10th Kyu. This is your first belt and is white. Gradings take place every 3 months and you will be invited to grade when your Sensei ( teacher ) believes you are ready. We do not give out belts for simply showing up at BSK!
